About this project

Innovation - Offshore Heavy Lift DP2 Jack-Up

DEME is a global provider of solutions in the offshore oil, gas and renewable energy industries (particularly for wind turbines). They have an excellent track record in the transport and installation of foundations, turbines, inter-array cables, export cables and substations for offshore wind farms. In the oil and gas industry they are experts in sand reclamations and civil works, stone placement, heavy lifting, umbilicals and installation and decommissioning services. With a high-tech and versatile fleet, of which the “Innovation” is one of more than 100 ships, they offer flexible solutions for the most complex offshore energy projects.

Technical information “Innovation”:

  • Built: 2015; length: 147.50 m; width: 42.00 meters; depth: 11.00 m; leg length: 89.00 m; staff: 100;
  • equipment in all cabins: shower, toilet, hairdryer, satellite TV, radio, safe.

Facts:

  • Object -> Offshore Heavy Lift DP2 Jack-Up Vessel
  • Segment -> Industry
  • Application -> Water intake (ballast water intake)
  • Installed product -> KM3100 + U210-4/110

What was the selling point?

  • At the time of application, the insulation value of the existing KM3100 motor was insufficient. During overhaul the engine was re-wound. This process takes some time and because the 'Innovation' was about to carry out an order for installing wind turbines in the North Sea, it had to immediately borrow a complete pump unit from a fellow ship. This is far from effective. DEME has therefore now also opted for a reserve pump on board. A working well pump for the intake of ballast (sea) water is crucial here.

Why does DEME Group choose the Wilo & Wri-Tech solution?

  • The existing pump unit (KM3100 + U210-4/110) from 2013 is already a Wilo pump, so this is an easy and logical choice for 1:1 interchangeability.
  • The (technical) crew of the “Innovation” is very satisfied with the performance and quality of the pump. In addition, (preventive) maintenance is relatively simple, which means that virtually no unnecessary costs are incurred.
  • The price-quality ratio is in line with the market

What are the immediate and long-term benefits we offer to DEME Group?

  • At DEME Group we are the right partner for new pumps, overhaul, repair, maintenance and testing of pumps.
  • Since our renewed contact in August 2020, we have carried out many service assignments on several ships, including the “Innovation”, as well as in our workshop.
  • Due to the limited time in port during an assignment at sea, we tackled the work with high priority. The pumps on board were quickly functional again.
